A Short History Of Beta Sigma-Upsilon Sigma

The 1952 year After Death
economic and social stimuli effected a marked improvement in the standard living of businessmen and soldiers in the Philippines.
These American businessmen and soldiers became the nucleus of a growing organization that has an independent governance
and socially involved activities. With their struggle, they were able to uphold an organization that embodied their means
and deeds. They named it Beta Upsilon Sigma whose interests were mostly socio-political concerns. The organization aimed
to portray its idealism to the society and to be able to have a better exercise of their unabsolute freedom of expression.
The Organization operated and gave function to the society untill the second World War.
The Revival
The years of 90's were full of chaos brought
about by social and political problems. These terms inspired seven Boy Scouts to revive the noble Beta Upsilon Sigma.
Revived January 14,1992 in Mindanao Polytechnic State College
as a fraternalized organization in Cagayan de Oro City which later became the first fraternity in the city whose
governance depends on the place where it was born. From its dictum "Pax Unitas Justitia" which means Peace Unity and Justice,
they conceptualize the essence of unity and equal rights among Mindanaoans which they have thought Northern
Mindanao lacks in it.
The consideration of Internationalism is based upon
it's goals and principles, not in terms of teritories and colonies and regardless of conquering the four corners of the
world. The organization is dynamic and is committed to the integral formation of youth and students, underlying its meaning "BROTHERHOOD
and SISTERHOOD of YOUTH and STUDENTS" not just in Northern Mindanao but also in the entire Philippines. The organization has
grown steadily through the years.
Betaupsians in the New Millenium
In its 14th year of service, Beta Sigma-Upsilon Sigma looks
forward to a stronger community. Betaupsians are Persons of Peace, Unity and Justice and has a strong advocacy to the benefits
of all Kagayanons and Filipinos. The organization affiliates all indigenous organizations in the city concerning socio-politics
and environmental concerns.
A consistent advocation of these very noble roles, Beta Sigma-Upsilon
Sigma envisions a fraternal harmony that may transcend a nationalistic and community-centered Youth and Students.
Beta Sigma-Upsilon Sigma, however, constitutes a training ground
for the youth to become tommorow's leaders. Recognizing their vital role in shaping up Mindanao and the Philippines, it lends
its support to the welfare of the nation and to help promote and protect the well being of the youth to enable them to develop
morally, socially and spiritually, in a wholesome manner to transform them into an upright, healthy and useful citizens as
potential leaders in the society. By harnessing their idealisms, they can become an element in a collective effort to
build up a modern, peaceful and justified Mindanao and the Philippines as well.
Governance
The governing body of Beta sigma-Upsilon
Sigma is the Cagayan de Oro Omicron Supreme Council. All chapters in Northern Mindanao belong to its jurisdiction. The process
for choosing the council members is through election done yearly. The council is composed of 9 members and each member is
an elected and inducted campus chapter officer. They are tasked for certain responsibilities.
The Lord Chancellor- the supreme and the highest ranked
council member. He is tasked to uphold and strengthen the organization.
The Grand Betaupsian- mostly known as the President. empowered
as the chief and is tasked to do matters regarding decision-making, planning and approving.
The Vice-President- acts in the absence of the
Grand Betaupsian.
The Grand Master Secretaire- is tasked to do statistics,
keep records and infromations.
The Grand Master Excequer- is responsible
for financial concerns.
The Grand Mster of Account- acts in behalf and in the
absence of the Grand Master Excequer.
The Grand Master of Induction- is tasked to do paper
works and documentary items.
The Grand Master of Goodwill- is tasked to
enact as the organization's representative in the existence of Fraternity-related violence in order to negotiate the others
and is also responsible for internal and external public relations.
The Grand Master of Initiations-
is responsible to uphold Rituals and Initiations for admitting formal rites into secret knowledge for the incoming members.
The Grand Adviser- The counsel
of the Council. He shall be prudent and wise.
The Cockatrice
Pax- The state of being tranquil. Freedom from hostilities brought about by different point of
views and dogmatic ideas among Filipino youth and Students. There are many causes of the diversity of Filipino Idealism as
there are as many ways to lessen them. One important aid in fostering peace in Northern Mindanao is by developing the youth
of today to accept ather opinions as what they accept theirs. Through active participation in an open convention, the youth
and students may build up a stronger community, free from any fraternity-related violence.
Unitas- The fact of being one is important in nation-building. Through mutual coomunications and deliberate acceptance of other
else's ideas, means and deeds. To value the dignity of every human person and guarranties full respect for human rights. Betaupsians
respect the sanctity of a united Northern Mindanao and the rest places in the country. However, the common welfare of the
society as well as the goodness of all Filipinos depend to a great extent upon the proper training and exposure to social
involvement. Unity is a STRENGTH!
Justitia-
To promote a just and dynamic social order that will ensure the prosperity and independence of the country
and free the youth in Northern Mindanao from poverty through policies with adequate social services. Justice delayed is Justice
denied! Looking forward to accelerate the justice system in the Philippines. The preservation of justice in the society is
a protection of human liberty. One of the observations generally beleived by our people is that our society is oligarchic
in structure which, in turn, results in a government that is plutocratic in practice.
Community Services and Activities
Social Concerns
The Organization has been closely involved with
the life and growth, concerns and problems in the society especially in Cagayan de Oro, its Mother Chapter and in certain
places in Northern Mindanao. the Cagayan de Oro Omicron Supreme Council has provided various services to the society.
To be able to attain its goal of conquering the four corners
of the world, Clusters or Chapter by places has been implemented. Recently, Beta Sigma-Upsilon Sigma has come to the point
of giving glory to those who are in need. In support of the growing poverty, poor quality education and rumphant abuses in
the society, Beta Sigma-Upsilon Sigma aids youth to expose themselves in the real world and strengthen theirselves as the
hope for tommorow.
Beta Sigma-Upsilon Sigma holds at least once every
3 months of community service including general cleaning, political exposure, public information and seminars.
Most Filipinos today are unable to live in
dignity, peace and unity because they cannot acquire the necessary education and social liberation as a result of the detirioration
of Filipino society. Our Mothertown cannot advance unless she is nurtured and her social endeavors are protected and as well
preserved.
Environmental Concerns
Beta Sigma-Upsilon Sigma is involved in preserving
the environment as a vital factor for us Filipinos to live our lives to the cleanest and to the safest.
City Ordinance No. 8749 of the city of Cagayan de
Oro, otherwise known as the "Clean Air Act of 2000," provides a solution to upkeep the cleanliness of the air in the city.
Beta Sigma-UPsilon Sigma pledged to promote the said city ordinance. Several factors have been cited as responsible for Human
Threat and therefore , to us Kagayanons and to the youth of tommorow. Environmental Protection is a global issue and the organization
itself is duty-bound to help protect its own.
